The annual Smart Content Awards 2011 were announced at a gala dinner on Wednesday evening in Seoul, South Korea.
Nexon Mobile won the best games category for its colourful action-platformer-RPG MapleStory Cygnus Knights Edition, ahead of two adventure games, EA Korea's Imprison 4 and Visual Shower's White Island.
Other winners included book-soundtrack app The Power of Six from Booktrack, news-based social network Newszapped, language tutor SpeakingPal, U-Biz Valley's practical Seoul Safety Guard and Ensight Media Inc's Radio Alarm Clock HD.
Nice nosh up
The awards organised by the Korean Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) and sponsored by LG, drew a crowd of local and international mobile luminaries, including Pocket Gamer's Chris James, who employed his expertise as one of the judges.
Aside from the prestigious guests and the excellent hospitality, the event was notable for its seventh award, the Smart TV app, picked up by Minigate's Angry Duckling.
This exemplified a change from a pure mobile focus to a wider platform agnostic 'smart' content outlook.
This stance was further underlined by representatives of LG and MCST (the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), who separately spoke of their commitment to smart applications across multiple technologies, and belief that this would help Korea stay ahead of the pack in the technology race.
The full low-down on the awards and accompanying Smart Content conference is available on the official site.
