Microsoft has claimed it expects all first-party games for Xbox 360 to employ SmartGlass following the tool's launch this autumn.
That's according to Microsoft Studios' corporate VP Phil Spencer, who following the firm's decision to dedicate a large chunk of its press splash at E3 to the streaming technology claims it "makes sense" for developers to support the platform.
Talking sense
"It just makes so much sense for a developer who wants to supply, maybe not time-critical information, like 'that enemy is getting ready to shoot you,' but information that augments what's happening on screen," added Spencer.
SmartGlass will also let players take their game experiences out of the living room, he suggested.
"You're even going to see situations like with Ascend, where there's actually gameplay that happens on the phone, even when you're away from your television, and that interacts back with the online game.
"So I think you'll see information sharing, context sharing while you're in the room, with video and with games, as well as gameplay happening in more distributed environments."
No solid commitment was given as to how many Microsoft releases will sport SmartGlass, though the move comes just as expectation continues to suggest Apple is preparing to launch an app-equipped Apple TV, with iOS devices possibly acting as controllers.
