Apple may have set the tablet ball rolling with its 9.7-inch iPad, but the last year and a half has seen its rivals deliver smaller, more compact devices to market.
Case in point: Samsung's original Galaxy Tab first launched towards the end of 2010 was a 7-inch device, with both RIM and Amazon also muscling in on the market throughout the course of 2011 with PlayBook and Kindle Fire respectively.
Samsung's next tablet the Galaxy Tab 2 will be an attempt to regain control of this sector, again weighing in at 7-inches but this time sporting a 1GHz dual-core processor.
Return of the Tab
"Two years ago, Samsung Galaxy Tab began to offer customers more possibilities on the go," said president of IT and mobile communications division JK Shin.
"Since then, Samsung has actively enhanced our tablet line-up with several tablets in different sizes. The new Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) will provide people with delighted multimedia experience and allow efficient communication."
Samsung is billing the device, pictured below, as the world's first Android 4.0 tablet, set to launch first in the UK this March, before rolling out globally.
Other specs detailed by the first include the addition of a 3MP camera on the rear, as well as a front facing alternative for video calls, a 1024x700 WSVGA display and 8, 16 or 32GB of storage.
