German mobile social gaming technology provider Scoreloop has raised 2 million from its second round of funding for further expansion.
The venture capital funders were new investor Earlybird and existing investor Target Partners.
Scoreloop raised its first round of seed funding in April 2009.
It's an important announcement, as there are more half a dozen companies offering or planning to offer rival social networking technology for iPhone.
"This means we're here to stay," explains Scoreloop CEO and co-founder Marc Gumpinger. "We've raised this money because we've doing things right and we can already point to our success in the market."
Since launching in May 2009, the company's technology has been used by over 500 registered game developers who have published more than 40 Scoreloop-enabled games.
The funding will be used to further develop the technology, add support for new mobile platforms, and continue the company's focus on international business development with larger publishers and portals.
"We are continuously receiving excellent feedback from game developers and publishers, as Scoreloop offers a unique set of tools for social features and monetisation strategies," says Gumpinger.
"We are thrilled to be working with two of Europe's premier VCs, with Earlybird as an additional partner beside our existing investor Target Partners. We jointly aim to further increase our growth and to ensure an ideal market position for the company."
"We are delighted about the speedy validation of the business model among the developer community and the fact we were able to attract a new investor in this financing round, despite having just closed a seed financing round earlier this year. The Scoreloop team has managed a very impressive start and we are very optimistic that their technology will become the pre-eminent choice in the market," commented Olaf Jacobi, Partner at Target Partners.
Game developers can learn more about Scoreloop and download the free SDK from its website.
