Nvidia delays Shield shipments one day before launch

No new shipping date announced

Nvidia delays Shield shipments one day before launch
Nvidia announced a last-minute delay to its upcoming, Android gaming handheld, Shield, pushing back shipments until July at the earliest.

The official Nvidia blog was hazy with the reasons behind the slip, but blamed a third-party mechanical component, stating "some final quality-assurance testing has just turned up a mechanical issue that we're not happy with".

The waiting game

This issue was identified and disclosed to the public on Wednesday, June 26 which was exactly one day before the system was due to ship out to the those who pre-ordered.

Now, instead of checking their front step for a new $349.00 Android handheld, those who pre-ordered need to wait for updates from Nvidia.

Worse still, for those looking forward to receiving the Shield on June 27 is the fact that Nvidia hasn't provided a new shipping date for the handheld.

The blog explains that Nvidia's "taken the hard decision to delay shipping until next month" and that it'll let customers know "when we have an exact shipping date in July".

Comments on the blog post indicate that many customers are cancelling their preorders for the Shield out of frustration with the delay.
