Nokia has announced a partnership with T-Mobile around its Ovi Store, which was unveiled yesterday. The deal relates to mass-market Series 40 handsets, interestingly, and will see consumers browsing widgets from Ovi Store and T-Mobile's own widget gallery.
It's due to kick in during the second half of this year, and backs up Nokia's assertion yesterday that Ovi Store isn't just aimed at high-end handsets (correctly perceived as a dig at just about every other app store and indeed App Store).
The Series 40 handsets will get their own Java-based widget client, which hooks up to both Nokia and T-Mobile's stores.
T-Mobile actually announced its new widget platform today, as part of its next iteration of the web'n'walk portal service. It launches in Spring, and involves letting users download widgets and install them on their phone's idle screen.
Games will be part of the new deal developers have already been creating simple games for Nokia's WidSets platform, which is being rolled into Ovi Store. Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo also offers games through its i-Widget platform.
The announcement of the Nokia / T-Mobile deal doesn't mention how the two companies plan to co-operate in terms of Ovi Store on more advanced handsets.
