Amazon comes last

iPad boasts the most competitive app store, reckons Strategy Analytics
In a report from Strategy Analytics, the iPad App Store has been revealed to be the 'most competitive' app store.

What does this mean? Apparently, it's a measure of how easy it is for new releases to unseat the long established charting properties.

Despite being at the top of the pile, however, the iPad App Store only managed to beat the last place store (Amazon) by 10 percent.

Woo the devs

The App Store Competitive Index, compiled by Strategy Analytics, collects data over multiple store fronts including iPhone, iPad, Android Market, Amazon App Store, and BlackBerry App World.

The aim of the index was outlined by director of apps research at Strategy Analytics Josh Martin.

"The App Store Competitive Index is a way for storefronts to gauge how successful they are exposing users to new and innovative apps," he said.

"As of today most storefronts are failing spectacularly. Improving discoverability and increasing competitiveness could be a useful tool to woo developers away from less competitive storefronts and improve the app ecosystem for all."

However, to get the complete breakdown, and details of how the index has been calculated, you'll have to spend $1,999 via the Strategy Analytics website.
