Qualcomm used its keynote spot at this year's CES 2013 in Las Vegas to unveil its rebranded family of Snapdragon chipsets, with the latest addition the Snapdragon 800 designed to meet the needs of consumers who want the same experience across multiple devices.
As pitched by Qualcomm CEO Dr. Paul Jacobs, Snapdragon 800 processors will drive everything from high-end smartphones and tablets to the latest smart TVs and PCs, helping manufacturers and service providers co-ordinate their platforms across multiple devices.
Why? Because according to Qualcomm, the latest generation of consumers has been "born mobile".
We are family
Qualcomm claims the Snapdragon 800 series is designed to "deliver blazing fast apps and web browsing, visually stunning graphics, breakthrough multimedia capabilities, seamless communications virtually anytime, anywhere."
Its unveiling has been coupled by the release of a prototype tablet, with Qualcomm claiming it is looking to work with manufacturers to deliver the first Snapdragon 800 devices before the end of 2013.
"This is the most advanced wireless processor ever built," said Jacobs.
"This will deliver up to 75 percent better performance than its predecessor. We're setting the standard for excellence in mobile computing."
Snapdragon 800 sits at the top of a completely rebranded range, with Snapdragon S1-S4 replaced by the Snapdragon 800, 600, 400, and 200 ranges.
