Apple has reportedly cut its orders for iPhone 5 components in response to weaker-than-expected demand.
That's according to both the Japanese daily Nikkei and the Wall Street Journal, which claim sources "familiar with the situation" believe Apple has halved its order of LCD displays for January to March 2013.
Said sources also claim that Apple has slashed orders for other iPhone 5 components too, with the suggestion being that sales of Apple's latest smartphone are currently falling short of the company's estimates.
The back foot?
This news comes at a time when Apple's share price is under pressure - Samsung's smartphone surge is being widely reported, with many predicting 2013 will be the year when iPhone's largely-unchallenged reign at the top could come under threat.
Apple's latest financial results which will cover the three months beginning 30 September are expected to be made public sometime next week.
The firm generally releases iOS sales figures along with these results, so it's likely iPhone 5's sales to date will soon be public.
The device got off to a record-breaking start post launch - 5 million sold over the course of its debut weekend - meaning any supposed slip from such a rate is likely to be rather pronounced.
