Gambling software outfit Playtech buys GameMaker dev YoYo Games for $16.4 million

It's gambling meets gaming again as the self-styled "world's largest online gaming software supplier" Playtech (LON:PTEC) has bought YoYo Games, the company behind the GameMaker: Studio software.

The deal is reported as being worth $16.4 million, which Playtech paid for in cash.

Clearly, the reason for the deal is to add the GameMaker platform to Playtech portfolio of products.

Originally designed to encourage educational game making, GameMaker has expanded into a broader Studio set of tools, that are focused around 2D content.

There's no news as yet as to how the deal will impact GameMaker's current audience of game makers in terms of future updates and support.
