With announced sales up almost 30 percent year on year, Korean publisher Gamevil has plenty of reasons to be cheerful about its performance in 2010.
Its reputation has been built on franchises such as RPGs like Zenonia and Hybrid, as well as its annual Baseball Superstars games, and the company has been expanding into other platforms.
It was early to Android, and has also highlighted its success with micro-transactions on iOS.
Kyu C. Lee, is the head of Gamevil USA.
What was the most significant event of 2010?
Kyu Lee: The significant increase of smartphones was most noticeable. Newer devices such as tablets also brought more attention to mobile gaming in general.
What was the most significant event for Gamevil?
Our focus was to penetrate the smartphone market harder while trying to launch our successful IPs on multiple handheld console devices.
We've been continuously increasing the number and quality of the titles we ship annually for iOS and Android, and we've also released new games on Nintendo DSiWare and PSP minis.
What was your favourite mobile game of the year?
My personal favourite was Baseball Superstars 2011. I had a lot of fun raising my character in the My League mode and winning the achievements through Game Center.
What do you predict will be the most important trends in 2011?
Advanced business models such as freemium and social gaming will be important in 2011, while on the device side, new tablet devices and iOS and Android TV devices will be very interesting too.
The definition of mobile gaming has been continuously changing, and we believe that mobile game companies will have strong influence within these gaming trends. Mobile games will also become more social as more and more social game companies move into the smartphone sector.
If you could enforce one New Year's resolution, what would it be?
The battle between multiple smartphones will be very interesting in the New Year, and carrier billing across different stores will play a huge part in monetisation.
Thanks to Kyu for his time.
