With mobile studios dominating the list of nominees for UK trade association TIGA's first ever awards, we decided to put the spotlight on some of the developers in the running.
Lucky Frame is up for two awards in all, with Bad Hotel in the running in the originality and visual categories.
We caught up with studio founder and director Yann Seznec to find out how the developer is taking the nominations.
Pocket Gamer: How do you feel about being named as a finalist at the TIGA Awards?
Yann Seznac: It's brilliant!
There are some really amazing games and studios on that list, we feel honoured to be next to them. It's always nice to know that people are noticing our work.
What would receiving a TIGA Award mean for your studio?
It would of course be amazing to get an award. Awards are fun.
On the other hand, we don't make stuff to get awards - very few people do, and I'm sure those people aren't nominated - so I think it would be a nice feeling, a moment to pat ourselves on the back, and then it's back to concentrating on making things.
We are so proud of Bad Hotel and what we've managed to achieve in a very short time, an award would be a great but we just want to keep creating, that's the most important thing.
Are you a TIGA member?
We are not. We make many different things, games being just one of them.
I don't think we identify much with the 'games industry' so we wouldn't really have much to bring to TIGA and up until now a membership hasn't offered us anything we need.
What do you think are your chances of winning?
Zero! Which is a nice relief, we don't need to worry.
Both of the categories that we are nominated in are chock-full of incredible nominees, most notably Dear Esther. I'm betting the farm on Dear Esther in both categories. We definitely won't win, but it's great to be a part of it.
Thanks to Yann for his time. You can find more details on the TIGA Awards 2012 nominees here.
