ICS Mobile has announced that more than 1,000 people downloaded its iTag Live location-based iPhone game within its first 24 hours on sale.
That might not sound like a lot, but it's not bad going for this kind of game - not least because it's a GPS game, meaning it should benefit from an accelerating word-of-mouth boost as time goes on and people sign up their friends.
Meanwhile, ICS has also announced a deal with conference calling firm FreeConferenceCall.com to use the latter's technology to let players communicate with each other while playing the game.
iTag Live is available in a Lite version for now, and is described as a "real-time lasertag style" game that involves tracking down other players within a mile radius.
"A successful launch is always really exciting" says CEO Joe Bayen.
"The development of the app was very challenging since we needed to seamlessly blend several iPhone features within a single application. We also faced a couple of hurdles at launch such as incompatibilities with wireless networks in France and Italy and the fact that we omitted to specify that the game was solely dedicated to 3G iPhones."
The company is already working on the next-gen version of the game, which it says will include Facebook Connect integration and new weapon features, including accelerometer-activated grenades.
"We hope that the next iTag generation code named iTag Live Advanced will be running in the background" says Bayen. "It will allow the entire iTagnation community to essentially be part of a massive real time multiplayer game."
