Fishlabs CEO Michael Schade has joined the ranks of games developers praising Apple's 3.0 firmware update, suggesting it gives new scope for more hardcore games.
"Its good news for everyone who targets a smaller group of high-end users and wants to monetize over time rather than once as pay-per-download," he says.
"In the past it was too risky on the App Store to develop costly Apps that wont appeal to mass market and need to be sold for more than $0.99."
Schade says that Fishlabs is now looking at how to bring more of its games to iPhone using the new features of the 3.0 software.
"We always thought Galaxy on Fire and Blades & Magic would be perfect candidates for MMOGs on iPhone if only the right billing was in place," he says.
"Now we can monetise users who love to play our games for hours without charging a big chunk for the initial download. The more players like a specific game the more they are willing to pay and the more we are motivated to make it as good and as long lasting as possible."
However, he's not so sure on how more casual games will make use of the iPhone 3.0 software.
"I only wonder if fun apps will still be as successful as they are right now," he says. "But hey, it's not our business anyway!"
