It seems like Christmas 2009 will be seen as the time when iPod touch stamped its mark on the pocket gaming market as an individual platform separate from iPhone.
Data from Flurry suggested that Christmas Day was the first time more App Store download requests came from iPod touches than iPhones: something data from mobile ad company AdMob has underlined.
It reckons ad requests from iPod touches increased 96 percent on December 26 compared to the average from the week prior, while requests from iPhones only increased by 12 percent.
As you can see from the country breakdown below, the performance jump was particularly strong in the UK, with a leap of over 120 percent on December 26.
AdMob points out that this doesn't mean the number of iPod touches sold was up by that amount, only that they were being used a lot during the holiday season. However it predicts that several million devices were bought over the Christmas period.
