Metismo releases standalone OpenGL ES tech for PSP

Chipping out a piece of the Bedrock SDK

Metismo releases standalone OpenGL ES tech for PSP
Cross-platform technology is the way most middleware companies are going these days, but sometimes it’s worth breaking out specific components too.

At least that’s what UK provider Metismo is doing, making available its OpenGL ES compatible library for the PSP as a standalone module.

The library was originally developed as part of the Bedrock SDK to enable cross-platform development across J2ME, Brew, Android, iPhone, Windows Mobile and PSP.

“While we developed the OpenGL ES support as part of the broader Bedrock technology, it became apparent that for some developers a standalone OpenGL ES package for the PSP was particularly beneficial.” said John Chasey, Metismo’s CEO.

The Bedrock OpenGL ES package for the PSP is supplied as a static library to link to using Sony’s SN Systems compiler. Supported features within the library include: lighting; fogging; vertex buffer objects; uncompressed, palletised and additional DXTC compressed textures; fixed and floating point data type adherence; and internal vertex array conversion to optimal PSP formats.
