PSP Minis price cut sees sales of Vempire jump 404%

Shifting the supply and demand curve

PSP Minis price cut sees sales of Vempire jump 404%
With Sony keen to reboot the PSPgo and its digital download PSP Minis bite-sized game initiative in 2010, it's good to see a new European marketing strategy is shaking things up.

Throughout February, Sony has declared Minis Month: "a 28-day extravaganza of goodies, competitions and offers celebrating minis".

As part of this, the price of games has been cut with Fieldrunners down from €4.99 to €3.99, Bloons down from €3.99 to €2.49, and Dracula - Undead Awakening cut from €4.99 to €2.99.

Italian developer Impressionware is particularly pleased.

Its MD Luigi Fumero told PocketGamer.biz that since its price cut from €2.99 to €1.99 last week, sales of its Vempire game had exploded.

"Over the last week, across Sony Computer Entertainment Europe territories, we sold 404 percent more than average," said Fumero.

"This wasn't only due to the price cut but also due to Sony's marketing effort in forums and via mailing lists etc."

PSP Minis can be played on both PSP and PlayStation 3.

Let's hope the momentum from these sales is maintained, and wider issues such as the Minis' pricing compared to the iPhone App Store considered.
