Samsung had the crowds excited in Barcelona this evening for its Mobile World Congress 2010 presentation, which it used to role out a host of new feature-rich phones.
The one that really caught the industry's eye is the Wave S8500, mainly because it heralds the first appearance of the Samsung-developed smartphone operating system bada.
But it also represents the first ever mobile outing for Bluetooth 3.0, which is also something to get pretty excited about. This latest wireless standard offers the Wave a wireless connectivity speed of up to 24Mbps, thanks to its use of the 802.11 protocol.
Considering the emphasis next-gen smartphones are placing on HD video, a high speed wireless data connection could be a significant part of how devices like the Wave will turn miniaturised 720P from a novelty into a vital feature.
It also makes for some significant power savings, and is likely to herald the end of wires between devices.
