Online gaming specialist Z2Live has announced it has added voice chat support to its network, the company stating the new feature bolsters its set-up as "the first true multiplayer game platform for mobile".
The new SDK, which supports iPhone, iPod touch, and the forthcoming iPad, is immediately available for free from the firm's website, Z2Live stating that the first titles to make use of the new voice chat functionality should launch on the App Store within 30 days.
"Mobile gamer can now play and talk to their friends at the same time," said Z2Live president and CEO David Bluhm.
"For gamers, it's a lot more fun and for publishers, it helps sell more games."
Community is key
The news follows Z2Live's announcement yesterday that Lou Fasulo, who previously headed up publishing for Sonic Boom Games after similar roles at Vivendi Universal and AT&T, will "oversee the launch and development of a next generation mobile game community".
The community is due to launch within the next 60 days, Z2Live claiming it will appear to a wide variety of casual gamers keen to play a "broad genre of games including card, puzzle, arcade, word and adventure".
"He is one of the best business minds in mobile gaming. We are very excited to have Lou on board and confident he will build a great community," added Bluhm.
"Our concept of community goes well beyond providing leader boards and global chat," said Fasulo following his move.
"Community is the game. Social interaction and game mechanics will increasingly be integrated into one overall experience."
