With Apple currently busy putting apps destined for iPad's US April 3rd launch through their paces, AppInsider reports 44 percent of those tested fall into the game category.
The site claims the latest statistics it has received from analytics firm Flurry put games well ahead of the rest of the competition, entertainment apps the second most popular category with a 'distant' 14 percent.
This also chimes with Pocket Gamer's own list of iPad games in development which is already over 90-strong.
AppInsider says Flurry VP of marketing Peter Farago told the site that apps seen running on iPad's iPhone OS 3.2 are likely the result of testing, Apple having begun accepting submissions for launch apps at the end of last week.
Mounting evidence
The latest statistics back up previous findings by Flurry, the firm having stated it saw a dramatic increase in testing back in January testing that was, again, dominated by gaming based apps.
As a result, the firm registered 1,600 new iPhone project starts in January - a rise that represented the largest single spike in the company's history.
Flurry commented at the time that iPad was the driving force behind this "unprecedented surge", Farago stating that it was a "positive early indicator for its commercial potential".
