The power of Pac-Man Lite

Namco's UniteSDK has almost 2.5 million users
One of the more significant announcements at GDC 2010 was Namco's UniteSDK.

Its version of social gaming networks such as OpenFeint and Scoreloop, it will eventually support platforms such as Java and Brew, Android, and PC and Mac, and be available to thirdparties too.

At the moment though, it's just available on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, launching with online multiplayer title Pool Pro Online 3.

But last week Namco retrofitted it into Pac-Man Lite to support community chat, player information and awards, and the impact was substantial.

"During the span of less than a week, we've seen almost 2.5 million users, averaging about 400,000 downloads per day," reveals PR manager Reory Howard.

And looking to further boost those numbers, next it will be included in the full version of Pac-Man, while Pool Pro Online 3 (usually $4.99) will be released for free on Wednesday April 28.
