Mixing daily viral activity with the promise of an iPad

Appular's $1,738 marketing spend on Hand of Greed competitions
With game discovery the key issue for iPhone developers, new publisher Appular has been cleverly splashing the cash when it comes to marketing its debut, Hand of Greed from Oregon outfit Brainium Studios.

It's layered its approach into four elements.

The first uses the new App Store gifting mechanic with a first come, first served giveaway of 1,000 copies of the 99c game.

The second uses the game's official forum thread with a daily poll about Hand of Greed trivia. This will see 100 99c apps being given away. If you win, you can choose which 99c game you want.

Spreading the value

Thirdly are 15 $10 iTunes gift cards, which you have the chance to win by either liking Appular's Facebook page or following it on Twitter and tweeting a prepared statement about the competition.

The final element is the biggie. You can win an iPad by writing about your experiences of playing Hand of Greed Appular's Facebook wall.

The caveats are that winners must be US residents and have US iTunes accounts. The competition ends 12 May.

You can find full details on Appular's Facebook page.
