App discovery sites are designed to appeal to consumers looking for a bargain those who won't download games until they go free.
And these are exactly the sort of people who want to tell their friends all about those bargains too.
As such, the news that FreeAppADay's forthcoming iPhone app will include both SMS and push notification systems announced during the site's joint party with Pocket Gamer at WWDC 2010 in San Francisco could be revolutionary.
It has the potential to boost the FAAD app as a general tool for social interaction - further increasing its potential as a discovery system.
Tell it loud
"The two upcoming features are major additions to our promotional arsenal," said CEO Joe Bayen.
"They are set to dramatically enhance the viral capability of our solution as well as transform the FreeAppADay.com app into a true one-stop-shop location for iPhone and iPod users to discover and download highly rated free and paid applications as well as send and receive text messages at no cost."
The app itself is due to go live within a week, with the push notification set-up set to follow in an update shortly thereafter. At launch, the SMS system will be limited to the US however.
