First up a Mafia Wars style game

MocoSpace primes browser-based mobile gaming platform
Thanks to the explosion in always connected mobile devices, many companies are shifting their gaming operations from a patchwork approach to embracing joined up social communities.

One such is US outfit MocoSpace, which despite only being available in the US and Canada, claims 12 million people in its mobile network.

At present though, its games are limited to single player experiences, with activity of more than one million games per month being recorded.

Browser's the best

It expects this to rise rapidly as part of its MocoSpace Games platform initiative, which will embrace browser-based mobile gaming.

"The mobile web has yet to deliver on the quality of mobile gaming that is standard for rich media smartphone apps," said MocoSpace CEO Justin Siegel.

"Our goal with MocoSpace Games is to bring the virality of Facebook games to the mobile web. The mobile web allows us to truly expand the potential of social gaming, with a browser-based smartphone platform that can bring a deeper game experience to the mass market."

Details of the first game to launch in July haven't yet been revealed, but it looks like MocoSpace will be following industry tradition with a Mafia Wars style release.

And key to this commercial success of this expansion into true community gaming will be the company's virtual currency Moco Gold.
