No titles have yet been announced but the word from casual publisher PopCap is that it will be supporting Android devices.
"We can confirm that yes, we're bringing our games to Android over the rest of 2010 and beyond," a spokesman told Pocket Gamer.
In one sense, this isn't a big surprise. Even before PopCap became a highly successful publisher on iPhone with million sellers such as Bejeweled 2, its games were available for Java and Brew featurephones, albeit often licensed through other companies.
Priming the Market
Still, the fact that premium games such as Plants vs Zombies, Peggle and the Bejeweled series will be available on Android is another small step of recognition for the platform, which although selling high numbers of handsets is still seen as a difficult place on which to successfully sell paid content.
The news follows on from support from companies such as Gameloft, which have attempted to overcome the difficulties with the Android Market by launching its own bespoke store for high-end 3D titles.
