We're not sure how a paid transaction is different to a paid sale - presumably something to do with in-app purchases or subscriptions - but either way, Namco Networks has announced its Pac-Man franchise has done 30 million paid transactions on Qualcomm's Brew mobile platform over the past seven years.
Titles specifically mentioned as doing well include Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Man Championship Edition.
Old favourite
"Since 2003, we've worked closely with Qualcomm and Brew carriers to bring Pac-Man-related content to the mass market," stated Namco Networks' senior vice president of sales and marketing, Scott Rubin.
"With more than 30 million paid transactions in the US, our goal remains the same - to please all consumers with top-notch games."
It's also a reminder that despite the rush to smartphones, traditional mobile platforms such as Brew in the US and Java in Europe still provide viable revenue streams.
Indeed, Qualcomm is the process of relaunching Brew in the form of its Brew Mobile Platform. This will bridge the gap between high-end smartphones and featurephones, bringing touchscreens, rich-media content, and dedicated app stores to entry-level smartphones.
