Samsung, which had previously been muted regarding its iPad killer, has finally broken its silence to detail the launch of its new Android-powered tablet, the Galaxy Tab.
Not its consumer launch, though, but rather its press launch, with its debut in front of the cameras set for a media conference in Berlin on September 2.
The revelation was made via a YouTube video Samsung perfecting Apple's well versed art of pre-announcing a product announcement with said film offering only the briefest glimpses of the new device in action.
Galaxy's reality
Details delivered via the video are, likewise, thin on the ground.
However, the words 'video call', 'full web browsing', 'navigation', 'HD movie play'. 'e-reading', 'Flash support' and, perhaps most interestingly, 'augmented reality' suggest Galaxy Tab will come with the kind of feature set that surpasses iPad.
Indeed, the addition of augmented reality to the list means rumours that the device was set to be camera equipped are correct - although whether it will be a QVGA front-facing camera joined by a 3MP camera on the back remain to be confirmed.
Bring on Berlin
"Samsung is using its world-leading design innovation to define the future of mobile life," the firm said in statement, released with the video.
"Samsung is using its technical expertise to deliver a smarter experience and a galaxy of possibilities on-the-move. The newest innovation of Samsung Mobile is just on the horizon."
The video also confirms the tablet will run Android 2.2 (Froyo) and will come with a 7 inch screen.
The device's big expose in Germany at the start of September will no doubt reveal more, illustrating whether the Korean firm is likely to give Apple a run for its money over the coming months.
