Cross platform strategy paying off

Gameloft stamps its mark on Samsung Apps with 80% of UK top 10 games
While EA Mobile remains the leader on Apple's App Store, French rival Gameloft seems to be stealing a march when it comes to Samsung's new Wave bada-based smartphone, which is proving popular in Europe and Asia.

For example, checking out the paid section of the UK Samsung Apps store, Gameloft has eight of the top 10 games and ten of the top 15 games, with N.O.V.A., Let's Golf!, Avatar and Modern Combat: Sandstorm in the top five.

That said, indie developer Daniel Stakhovskiy is sitting pretty at the top spot with his Assault tank arcade game.

As has been seen with Gameloft's continued experimentation with the selling of Android games, it's by far the most aggressive of the big publishers when it comes to taking its IP across as many mobile platforms as possible.

It will be certainly interesting to see how this strategy plays out in terms of the company's revenue growth compared to EA Mobile's concentration on iPhone as the next set of financial figures are released, sometime in October.

Of course, at present, there probably aren't enough bada devices to drive significant sales, but with Samsung expecting to shift millions of units in 2010, this could change quickly.
