It might lack the level of power dual-core tablets boast, but Barnes & Noble has delivered on its promise to upgrade its Nook Color e-reader to Android 2.2, otherwise known as Froyo.
The launch of the refreshed OS - served up as part of version 1.2.0 of the platform's firmware - takes the Nook Color firmly into tablet territory.
Apps away
Barnes & Noble has spent much of the past five months courting studios to serve up apps for the device via its developer program, launched in November.
As a result, Froyo brings with it a dedicated Nook Color app store, already equipped with a number of big hitters such as Angry Birds and Flight Control.
"With Nook Color v1.2 you get Nook Email, an enhanced web experience with Adobe Flash Player, access to popular apps like Angry Birds, plus Nook Kids Read and Play titles, enhanced Nook Books, and more," the firm said in a statement, detailing the update's roll out.
"The software update will be automatically downloaded to devices that are registered and connected to wi-fi, beginning the week of April 25 and over the coming weeks."
Users who want to download the update can also pick it up directly from Barnes & Noble's website.
