Having built its base audience targeting developers adverse to coding with its drag-and-drop development platform for iOS, GameSalad how now turned its attention to browser-based play.
The firm has launched a new tool set with a similarly simple set up, this time allowing studios to work on games for HTML5-equipped web browsers.
Once created, these titles can then be embedded into any web page.
Homing in on HTML5
To date, the existing GameSalad Creator suite has been behind more than 18,000 titles across Apple platforms, with indie studios available to download the software without charge.
A pro $499 package is also available, allowing developers to implement monetisation methods such as in-game ads.
The company's latest move on the web, however, is one that CEO Michael Agustin believes is another step towards levelling the playing field between HTML5 apps and native titles, coming off the back of Angry Birds' debut on the Chrome Web Store.
Browser battles
"We've seen that performance gap narrow to the point that its approaching parity," Agustin told VentureBeat of the rise of HTML5-powered games.
"With all the tech companies focusing on developing the standard, the gap will be effectively negated over time."
Google has committed to carrying a number of the GameSalad-created titles on its marketplace for Chrome, though the games themselves will obviously be compatible with most major browsers.
GameSalad recently closed a $6.1 million strong investment round, led by Steamboat Ventures.
