Having set out to seed and support small games developers, Joystick Labs is preparing to put its money where its mouth is, launching a series of 12 week programs designed to forge a slew of innovative titles.
The new venture, dubbed the accelerator program, will hand studios of around 2-5 members each $20,000 in seed capital, as well as providing them with mentoring and networking opportunities.
Knowledge is power
Joystick claims its body of support, which is provided by a board of advisors made up of "experienced studio heads, programmers, artists and marketers", can hand developers just the level expertise they need.
"The shared experience with other entrepreneurs in the Joystick Labs environment allows the developer to focus on creating a great game and removes uncertainty and risk from the often intimidating process of launching a game studio," the firm said in a statement.
The company claims to have already launched five game studios in 2010, with several titles including M.U.S.E., from Lab Rats Studio and Saturday Morning RPG from Mighty Rabbit Studios - due to launch before the end of the year.
Developers looking to join the program can apply by visiting the firm's website.
Successful applicants will be invited to take part in their 12 week program at the American Underground in Durham, North Carolina.
