The number of games and apps sporting in-app purchases (IAPs) is on the rise, but to generate revenue, they have to be supported by live billing services.
Estonian payments specialist Fortumo is one of a number of firms attempting to bridge that gap, with the company announcing the addition of operator billing to its IAP SDK for Android.
Billing battles
Fortumo's SDK allows developers to sell their IAPs in markets where credit cards aren't commonplace, affording players the option of adding the cost directly to their mobile bill.
What's more, the SDK has been programmed to automatically fall back to premium SMS billing for operators that don't currently support carrier billing.
The new carrier billing option adds to Fortumo's existing roster of features, including the ability to pay when data connection is offline and support for 22 languages and 42 currencies across 61 different countries.
The SDK, which is free to download, can be found on Fortumo's website.
