Well known in the games industry for his enthusiasm for the free-to-play model - at least in its 100 to 10 to 1 ratio version - consultant Nicholas Lovell has released his second book based on his GamesBrief blog.
Entitled, (deep breath) 'GAMESbrief Unplugged Volume 2: traditional games, transition and the power of free', it's a collection of various stories that have appeared on the site over the past couple of years, contextualised with additional comment, and in some places, additional material.
Big bang
One topic Lovell considers in depth is the bankruptcy of Scottish studio Realtime Worlds, which burnt through around $100 million of funding making its MMOG All Points Bulletin. This is further backed with material from insiders and articles from Edge Online and Eurogamer.
But while the majority of the book - which comes in at just under 300 pages - is focused on the core console/PC space, social and mobile stories come to the fore towards the end of the period.
At the moment, GAMESbrief Unplugged Volume 2 is available in physical form as a paperback (£8.97) or hardback (£18) - both currently at a 40 percent discount.
Of course, for the whales, there's a £60 limited edition version, and digital versions in terms of PDF, Kindle and other ereaders are also planned.
