This is an interesting rumour, given that Samsung's UK head of content Keith O'Brien was recently quoted as saying the company had 'no plans' for tablets based on its bada OS.
Actually, what he told TechRadar was "It's not on the agenda for now, at least not as far as the UK is concerned".
The reason the "at least not..." bit is significant is we're hearing from certain game studios that Samsung is indeed working on bada-based tablets, because it's asking them to make games for them.
Right tech for the right market
The difference of opinion is, of course, the "as far as the UK is concerned".
As it stands bada - which is a platform based on various pieces of open source code beneath Samsung-specific layers - was designed for low and mid-range smartphones.
Indeed, the technical specification for the current bada 2.0 says that the maximum screen resolution developers (and OEMs) can currently support is 400 x 800 pixels - hardly something likely to excite UK consumers in tablet form.
However, with bada apparently selling well in emerging countries including India, it could make sense as a cheap 7-inch alternative to the higher end iPad and Android devices.
Equally, there's doesn't seem to be a technical reason the screen resolution couldn't be increased if Samsung really wanted to do so.
