According to anonymous sources from within the firm, app distribution and monetisation platform Tapjoy is actively seeking a sale, with potential buyers aimed at thought to include Zynga and Japanese social gaming giants GREE and DeNA.
It had previously been thought that TapJoy was considering the possibility of an IPO, with the hiring of CFO Al Wood, veteran of two such IPOs, joining the company in July 2011.
Now it seems that instability in the financial markets, along with the poor performance of those companies that have recently floated, such as Groupon, has led to these rumours of a potential sale.
So clearly in the lead
This remains a rumour, however, as CEO Mihir Shah has dismissed any assertions that the firm would sell.
"I can't comment on rumors or speculation," he said.
"We're at a level of scale and the market opportunity is so large and we're so clearly in the lead that there isn't really any direct viable competitor. We just continue to be focused on building this ridiculously exciting business."
