It could be corny to suggest Fishlabs' triumph at the German Developer Awards 2011 was a win for mobile developers the world over, but defeating a studio with the presence and standing of Crytek is no mean feat.
Indeed, Fishlabs best known on mobile for the likes of Galaxy on Fire, Snowboard Hero and advertising tie-ins with the likes of Barclaycard and Volkswagen beat out a total of five other developers to take the title, with Chimera Entertainment the only other mobile outfit on the roster.
Fishlabs on fire
"We are extremely happy to receive this award and I would first and foremost like to thank our whole team not only for the development of truly outstanding mobile games, but also for sticking with us in good times and bad times alike," CEO Michael Schade said in his acceptance speech.
"But there is also another man without whom we would not be where we are today: Steve Jobs. He created a revolutionary gaming platform, whose enormous flexibility and broad reach are absolutely unrivalled and whose importance for a studio like us can hardly be overestimated."
In particular, Fishlabs was praised for its 3D output on mobile, with those at the ceremony in Dusseldorf branding the outfits one of the country's most popular studios, both nationally and internationally.
