Analytics outfit Distimo, which number crunches app stores, has been comparing the growth of Android Market and Apple's App Store.
The opportunity is provided as it reckons Android Market has now hit 400,000 active apps (excluding apps that have been removed for various reasons).
It's taken slightly longer to hit this total than the App Store, but its rate of increase - which has been fairly constant since August - is now much faster.
Distimo links this to the rise of freemium content, with around 68 percent of the Android Market now consisting of free apps and games, up from 60 percent back in April 2011.
There are also around 100,000 active content publishers on Android Market.
