As the global launch of GREE's new social platform swings into view, so the Japanese firm is taking steps to ensure it's packed with content.
Much of the company's recent focus has been on strengthening its ties in the US (fostering first party development high on the agenda) but GREE has now turned its attention to Europe or, more specifically, French publishers Ubisoft and Gameloft.
Better with two
In two separate developments, GREE has unveiled partnerships with both outfits the former pledging to bring Assassin's Creed to the platform before the end of 2012.
The specifics of the game itself are unknown, but GREE claims the two parties are committed to "delivering a new and innovative social gaming experience to the franchise" on both iOS and Android.
The Gameloft deal currently highlights just one title, with new release Gang Domination a mob-themed card game with hints of links to the publisher's Gangstar franchise set to launch on GREE this June.
Eyes on the global prize
"Social card games are considered the most popular social games in Japan," said Gameloft president and founder Michael Guillemot.
"Gang Domination will be Gameloft's first social card game, and we're thrilled to work on this project with a leading player in this market such as GREE."
While GREE has a firm footing in Japan, its efforts to launch what's billed as a 'borderless' social gaming platform are designed to strengthen its hand in the west.
The firm acquired San Francisco-based OpenFeint for $104 million in April 2011, with the company's existing social platform for iOS and Android serving as the basis for GREE's global relaunch.
The new GREE social gaming platform will begin to roll out globally from April.
