Sony is to release an open beta version of PlayStation Suite's software development kit (SDK) in a phased roll out beginning in April.
The SDK has been part of a closed beta in the US, UK and Japan since November, but SCE claims the new version has been improved based on early feedback, helping to "dramatically enhance convenience and efficiency of the content development environment."
Open for business
Available without charge, the beta version of the kit also allows developers to carry out performance verification of their games using a PS Vita, with Sony keen to up the amount of digital content available on its latest handheld.
The official SDK, which will launch later this year, will cost studios $99 annually.
"Through the official version, content developers will also be able to seamlessly continue to develop content which was created with the open beta or the closed beta versions," SCE said in a statement.
"The phased roll out will include improving the PlayStation Suite presence on PlayStation Store for users who want to enjoy a variety of content with ease and convenience on their PlayStation Certified devices."
To date, PlayStation Suite supported devices include Sony's own Android handsets - Xperia arc, Xperia acro, Xperia Play, Xperia acro HD, Xperia S, Xperia ion as well as the Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P and the aforementioned PS Vita.
It's been suggested Sony is looking to expand its presence out beyond its own devices, however, with HTC rumoured to be working on PlayStation Certified handsets for release later in 2012.
