Web games specialist King.com has acquired smartphone studio Fabrication Games, TechCrunch has revealed.
The fee was undisclosed but PocketGamer.biz believes it to be in the multiple millions of euros.
The move will not only see the Stockholm-based studio's 12-strong workforce joining the casual games outfit, but will also result in King.com taking charge of the firm's library of games and development tools.
Fabrication recently developed Niko for Habbo publisher Sulake, and is currently working on Project Belle for NCsoft.
Further than Facebook
The acquisition follows the expansion of King.com's output on both its only social platform and Facebook to rival Google+ at the start of 2012, with the company boasting 23.8 million monthly active users at the time.
It's now suggested the King.com will use Fabrication Games' expertise on both iOS and Android to expand its output on mobile, taking on the likes of Zynga, CrowdStar and Funzio in the process.
King.com launched its first game on iOS back in 2009, with Amazon Survival having been followed by half a dozen games since.
Aside from this, TechCrunch reports the newly bolstered King.com will move towards an initial public offering (IPO) before the end of the year, depending on market conditions.
The site claims chief executive Riccardo Zacconi is currently on the hunt for a Silicon Valley-based board member and is "changing internal financial reporting to meet generally accepted accounting principles".
