Tapping into a competition backed by $10,000 worth of prizes, Sony has come together with Major League Gaming to bring a competitive league to Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation on iOS and Android.
Players of Gameloft's big hitter will be able to compete against gamers on either OS, with user simply required to link their Gameloft Live details to a MLG account.
Competitive spirit
The venture has somewhat confusing been dubbed the Xperia Mobile Gaming Arena, with competitions within other top titles set to follow in the coming months.
"From the launch of Xperia Play, the first smartphone to bring console-like gaming to smartphone, to now the Xperia Mobile Gaming Arena, the first-of-its-kind competitive platform for mobile gamers, we are committed to bringing the best mobile entertainment experiences to our customers," said head of marketing for Sony Mobile Communications in North America, Peter Farmer.
"Bringing together MLG's authority in competitive gaming, Gamelofts blockbuster game titles and Sony Mobile's immersive mobile entertainment experience, the Xperia Mobile Gaming Arena is sure to deliver a new level of mobile gaming for competitors."
Three for all
For its part, Gameloft VP of publishing in the Americas Baudouin Corman says the partnership between the three companies is a sign of a "new age of competitive mobile gaming."
"Given the millions of gamers that have participated in competitions online and via console over the years, theres a great future for the online multiplayer experience with the Xperia Mobile Gaming Arena," he added.
More details on the competition can be found on the MLG's website.
