'Bigger is better' could be the theme that dominates in the latter half of 2012, with talk suggesting both Apple and Amazon are preparing to supersize their respective smartphone and tablet offerings.
Sources cited by Reuters have claimed Apple's next iPhone the likely iPhone 5 - could sport a bigger screen than its predecessor, coming in at 4-inches to the current model's 3.5-inches.
Taking note
In regards to iPhone, it's stated the larger device is a response by Apple to Samsung's Galaxy Note, which has confounded early critics and won plaudits and sales thanks to its 4.8-inch screen.
Production on iPhone 5's 4-inch display is reportedly already underway at three suppliers LG Display in Korea, as well as at Sharp and Japan Display with orders themselves set to be placed in June.
As a result, the next iPhone has been given a tentative launch date of August that's a month after Amazon's revised Kindle Fire is expected to hit the shelves.
Reuters also reports Amazon is looking to go big, shifting up from the existing 7-inch Android-powered Kindle Fire still not available outside of North America to a new 8.9-inch device.
