RIM has announced that BlackBerry and PlayBook users have downloaded more than 3 billion apps since BlackBerry App World launched in April 2009.
Obviously, the milestone figure doesn't include apps downloaded from third party BlackBerry app stores, or those downloaded directly from the web.
The number of daily downloads being served by App World is increasing, too.
It took 786 days to serve 1 billion downloads, 210 days to make the jump to 2 billion, and 176 days later BlackBerry App World delivered its 3 billionth app download.
Comparison's sake
BlackBerry App World now boasts a catalogue of more than 90,000 applications. That's not the number of apps that have been submitted that's the number of apps currently available to download.
Yet, in comparison to the competition, RIM still has a long way to go.
At its June 2012 I/O conference, Google announced that there are more than 600,000 apps available on Google Play, and that 20 billion apps have been installed on devices since the Android Market launched in October 2008.
Earlier in the same month, Apple announced at WWDC that the App Store had served up 30 billion app downloads, and that the Store was home to a total of 650,000 applications.
