Mehul Shukla, an engineer at SCEE R&D and developer services, used the stage at ExPlay 2012 to encourage developers to get on board with the recently launched PlayStation Mobile.
Shukla espoused the virtues of the platform the ability to reach new markets from a single codebase and a low financial barrier of entry for developers but reaffirmed the platform's insistence that developers code in C#.
Of course, many developers would prefer native code, and Microsoft's insistence on C# for Windows Phone 7 games led to limited interest from developers. Sony's decision to use C# is primarily based on security concerns.
However, Shukla suggested that this may change "in the future."
We might support other languages in the future - that depends on community feedback," he added.
Porous process
Indeed, his talk emphasised how open Sony is to developer and community feedback across the whole PlayStation Mobile project.
He explained that the PSM support system, for instance, is completely forum-based.
"It's a completely open environment," he explained, with the capacity for developers to submit suggestions. "Our team goes through every post on there."
And when it comes to submitting an application, Shukla explained that it's a self-submission process with a lightweight QA stage. Typically applications will be approved within just a few days.
More to come
Right now, PlayStation Mobile is available on the PS Vita and PlayStation Certified smartphones and tablets.
Shukla revealed that certified devices from Fujitsu, Asus and Sharp are all expected soon, and that the Wikipad will support PlayStation Mobile too.
Developers interested in exploring PlayStation Mobile can find out more at the PSM Developer Program website.
