PapayaMobile did a pivot in the summer of 2012, launching its AppFlood cross-promotion platform.
Now it's building on that decision with an in-app billing system that will enable western developers to plug their Android games directly into China Mobile payment infrastructure.
That's important because China Mobile is the world's largest operator with over 700 million subscribers.
Shooting fish in a barrel?
The first game to take advantage of the opportunity will be Cobra Mobile's iBomber.
And as well as getting access to a frictionless payment system - operator billing typically generates seven or eight times the revenue of credit cards in countries like China - iBomber will also be using AppFlood for promotion.
AppFlood enables developers to sell, buy or exchange non-incentivised traffic, and to further sweeten the deal, it's commission-free.
"With the integration of our AppFlood SDK with China Mobile, PapayaMobile is taking the lead in opening up the lucrative Chinese mobile market to developers worldwide," said its CEO Si Shen.
"Papaya is currently the only company that can provide both ad exchanges and carrier billing for in-app purchasing in China to independent developers.
"Our relationship with China Mobile, our success with AppFlood, plus our deep understanding of the Chinese mobile games space, makes Papaya the ideal partner for developers worldwide seeking to enter this dynamic market and monetise their games."
