Along with the closure of four Facebook games, Monday saw Zynga shut down OMGPOP.com but it would appear the site was almost brought back to life thanks to a group of OMGPOP alumni.
Sources 'familiar with the matter' report that several members of the OMGPOP team were in talks with Zynga to try and buy back the site or continue its operations.
In addition, said members also offered to buy back any games and intellectual property that Zynga wanted to sell. Down for the count
In the event, Zynga refused in all cases, citing that it would take "too much legal work" and the ultimate decision to close the site stood.
While it would be easy to paint Zynga as a villain in this situation, commentators have been quick to note it makes sense for the firm to close the door on this chapter of history, given the tempestuous history between the two companies.
What began with a massive buyout in 2012, lead to a massive write off barely a year later, and then culminated in the firing of the OMGPOP team after Draw Something 2 failed to replicate the financial success of its predecessor.
