Despite what you might think, game development technology isn't just about Unity.
Scottish vendor YoYo Games is motoring along nicely with its GameMaker tools.
Cumulatively they've been downloaded over 5 million times.
And the latest version - GameMaker: Studio, which supports iOS, Android, Windows, Windows Phone and HTML5 - downloaded over one million times, and racking up almost 20,000 daily users.
The release of version 1.2 means they're going to get a lot more done.
Faster, faster developer
The version's main feature is the new YoYo Compiler.
Supporting the full power of a device's CPU, the company reckons it could provide an 100-fold speed increase for existing games.
Of course, that's not a particularly useful way of using the potential. Instead, developers will be able to run more CPU-intensive tasks in their games such as better artificial intelligence, more real-time lighting, and/or advanced physics and collisions.
The new compiler will let you handle 2,500 zombies at 60 fps
In addition, the new release includes cross-platform shader support, enabling more complex art effects to be used.
The YoYo Compiler is free for customers of GameMaker: Studio Master Collection (which costs $799). Otherwise, it's available as an add-on priced $299.
