At Pocket Gamer Connects San Francisco 2015, Bryan Buskas, Senior VP of Sales - Performance Advertising at AdColony, gave a talk on the top ten trends in user acquisition seen in the top one hundred developers on the App Store.
The first major trend was that, of the companies surveyed, "almost three quarters say they are increasing their user acquistion budgets," as the advertising business continues to grow.
Ads without sound
Video advertising in particular is becoming popular with developers, with 98% reporting that it has been very effective for user acquisition, while only 28% said the same about display ads.
And when it comes to in-feed ads, Buskas recommend that developers ask themselves "how do I drive a download without sound?", as most apps mute in-feed ads by default.
