Epic Games has released its own match-3 puzzler, titled Unreal Match 3, for free on Android, with an iOS version soon to come.
While ostensibly a simple match-3 game, Epic has stated that the game is intended to be a learning resource to help developers create their own mobile games in Unreal Engine 4.
Not only is the game itself free, but also the full game project, including all the art assets, scripts, and source code for developers to tinker with.
Free to play, free to make
The tutorial itself deals with how to release on multiple platforms, how to implement achievements and leaderboards, and how to monetise with ads and IAPs.
Developers can then release their games without paying a licensing fee to Epic, which instead takes a 5% royalty from any revenue earned after an initial $3,000.
The game project can be downloaded through the Epic Games launcher's Unreal Engine Learn tab.
