LA-based VR start-up First Contact Entertainment has closed a $5 million investment round.
The developer is made up of former Starbreeze, Blizzard, Treyarch and Infinity Ward staff. It will use the investment to work on narrative-led VR games "with a commitment to push the limits of graphics, gameplay and storytelling".
First Contact has also hired former Skybound Interactive executive producers Matt Candler as its new Chief Revenue Officer. VRLA co-founder Jessica Ward has joined too as director of community management.
The highest quality
"The number one problem facing the VR industry right now is the lack of high quality, highly replayable VR content," said Hess Barber, co-founder and president of First Contact Entertainment.
"We aim to solve that problem by pioneering a variety of innovative VR gaming concepts--including unique game mechanics, compelling narratives, and DLCs. Our goal is to produce the kind of experiences that keep people coming back, again and again."
The studio has not yet revealed exact details of its upcoming games. It hopes to have its first title out by the end of 2016, and future titles will feature both original IP and licensed content.
